Hidden within a beautiful glacial valley in the Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough was founded by St Kevin in the 6th century and became one of Ireland’s most important early Christian monastic settlements.

Take time to explore the historic monastic remains, including the impressive round tower, ancient churches and stone monuments. You can also enjoy the peaceful scenery surrounding the Upper and Lower Lakes, with woodland, mountains and walking paths creating one of the most picturesque landscapes in Ireland.

From Glendalough, continue through the Wicklow Mountains National Park, taking in the rugged scenery of valleys, forests, mountains and remote countryside. One of the highlights is Lough Tay, famously nicknamed the “Guinness Lake” because of its dark waters and pale sandy shoreline. It is an excellent photo stop and one of the most recognisable viewpoints in Wicklow.

The tour then continues to Powerscourt Waterfall, Ireland’s highest waterfall at approximately 121 metres. Set among mature woodland and mountain scenery, the waterfall provides a spectacular natural contrast to the formal gardens visited later in the day.

Your final major stop is Powerscourt House & Gardens, one of Ireland’s most renowned historic estates. Explore beautifully landscaped grounds featuring formal terraces, the Italian Garden, Japanese Garden, Walled Garden and scenic views towards the Sugarloaf Mountains.
